North Winds Canvas Staff

Amy Poe

amy w/ wyatt

After working for three years as an engineer in the semiconductor industry, Amy joined the family business in 2000 to learn the art of sailmaking. From managing the office, to working on the floor, she has picked up all the necessary skills to keep the business running smoothly and efficiently. In 2006, she formed a new company, North Winds Canvas to manage the ever-increasing demand for custom canvas work.

Anika Olsen

Anika has been with the company since 2004. She has been filling the position of part-time Marketing Director. Anika obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design from Portland State University in 2006.

She has recently taken on the position of Production Manager, and will continue as our Marketing Director, working on campaigns and designing brochures and the web site, as well as overseeing the sail and canvas work.

In 2007, she cruised through the Grenadines on a Beneteau 42, sailing 200 miles north and south, exploring islands by land and sea, snorkeling reefs and enjoying the local cuisines.

Among her many accomplishments, she competed on the PSU Sailing Team and is proud to have been named the All Northwest Crew of the year in 2003 and 2004, and the All Northwest Woman Skipper of the year in 2005.

Anika is a member of Willamette Sailing Club. She races through out the year on her laser and on other local boats including J-24s, and soon the Tasar!

Kelly Penner

I have lived in Oregon Since I was 4 and love it. We get all the seasons with wonderful color.
I enjoy being able to work in the sailing community and am learning many new things. I originally went and received my two year teaching diploma, and taught pre-school for two years. But am now taking a break and doing office administration here.
One thing that I love to do is to travel. The one place that sticks out in my memory the most is when I spent three months in New Zealand as a foreign exchange student. I got to travel and see the beautiful country and meet many amazing people. My hope in the future is to travel again to New Zealand and then explore Europe. I have also seen places like the beautiful black sand beaches, and crystal blue waters of Hawaii, as well as the volcanoes of Guatemala.  One of my other hobbies is to be in the out doors, hiking, rock climbing, or simply just having a nice picnic.

Wyatt Poe

Wyatt is the youngest member of the group. His smile is priceless and his giggles will definitely make you laugh. Keep an eye on this one -he could be America's next top sailor! Come by and say hi!

Maggie Casey

Maggie has been with North Sails since spring 08.  She is from Philadelphia and moved to Portland in 2007.  She has been sewing since she was a young girl and after studying pattern making and garment construction for some time, she then transferred to a Fibers Arts program in downtown Philadelphia.  She has continued to make string sculpture.
You can see her here with her boss Wyatt.  Maggie is teaching Wyatt to swing on the trapeze and he has been explaining the wide world of synthetics to her.
Maggie works on the custom canvas work and is very excited to be learning with the North Sails team and to join them when sailing.
